Shevanthi Jayasuriya

Shevanthi Jayasuriya, Country Director of Room to Read Sri Lanka, is a 20-year corporate sector veteran and has held a variety of leadership positions in marketing and management across business, government and international donor/nonprofit industries.
Savvy negotiations and cutting edge marketing strategies join uncompromising integrity as the hallmarks of Shevanthi’s service in the private sector where she spent 16 years at Capital Maharaja Organization in Travel, Television and Radio, Mobile Communication, Public Affairs and Merchant Banking. She is exceptionally well respected, not only for her unparalleled professional track record and high ethical standards, but for being an honest, hardworking woman who does absolutely everything in her power to ensure the organization achieve its mission day in and day out.
In the public sector she held the post of Secretary General of the Fair Trading Commission and also worked as the Head of Communications at the Secretariat Coordinating the Peace Process. That eventually led Shevanthi to join the non- profit sector, where she functioned as the Chief Operations Officer for the Foundation for Co-Existence and also as the Chief of Party for the USAID- Accelerated Skills Acquisition project before joining Room to Read as Country Director promoting and supporting quality education for all.
As a director of various executive boards and committees, Shevanthi has sat on drafting guidelines for Gender Equality for the Ministry Policy Planning, addressed the United Nations conference on Aging and the Zonta International District Conference in Bombay on Women in Peace Building and participated in the International Visitor Program of the United States State Department and the European Union Visitor Program as a guest of the European Parliament.
Shevanthi holds a MBA in Business Finance from the University of Hull –UK and is a Fellow of the Charted Institute of Management UK. In addition to being a Charter Member of the Zonta Club to uplift the statues of women and children in Sri Lanka, Shevanthi is also a Founder Trustee of the Blue Paw Trust that was set up to improve the quality of our environment through promoting responsible pet ownership and animal welfare.
